Our Philosophy

Philosophy

  • The wedding day belongs to the Bride. Period. All of our efforts and decisions will be in support of the Bride's wishes and to create treasured memories of this special day.
  • Requests for special groupings that are not specifically requested will be honored, time and circumstances permitting.
  • Bill Gregory Photography is a professional company adhering to the standards and the Code of Ethics of the Professional Photographers of America. We use professional-grade cameras and equipment. The film we use is professional-grade film. We will ensure that all care is taken to ensure complete coverage of your wedding. At a minimum, we will have on-site two complete cameras, duplicate flash units, backup cords and accessories, and sufficient supply of film and batteries to cover two full weddings.  Digital equipment may be used to capture some candid photographs.
  • We will be cognizant of the time restrictions and the ability to compose the selected group photographs. Wedding photography is a controlled compromise. It is requested that either the wedding consultant or Maid of Honor or Best Man be utilized to help ensure that the groups are represented. Your selection list will be used to create a timetable that we will use as a guide during the wedding.
  • Pricing is service-based. We have found that offering "packages" leads to confusion because few couples can anticipate what their final Wedding Memory album will look like until previews are received. There is no practical way to capture every combination in a package selection list. Our work is not mass-produced. Our goal is for you to be delighted with the end-product of our photography. In order to reach this goal, we are prepared to customize your album(s) to meet your needs.

Other photographers

  • Videographers will be allowed to work separately or alongside of us, as long as we can ensure good images of the selected photographs. Electronic flash will be used as the primary light source for all photographs except for time exposures during the actual ceremony and potentially outdoor photographs of some groups. Occasionally, a flash will be registered on the videotape.
  • Bill Gregory Photography is the primary source of formal wedding photographs. Friends and relatives will be permitted to take snapshots as long as they do not cause delays or disruptions in the performance of the contracted work.
  • During the session after the ceremony and before the reception, time is of the essence. There are many photographs to be taken of relatively large groupings. During this phase, Bill Gregory Photography may make use of optically-triggered or radio-triggered flash units. The amateur photographers are requested to snap pictures AFTER each of the contracted photographs are staged and shot. Bill Gregory photography should not be required to move equipment or studio lights to accommodate family photographers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will he personally be taking the photographs of your wedding?  If not, can I ask to meet the person who will be?
At the time that a booking is made, you are reserving both a day and a photographer. I will inform you if anyone other than me will be shooting your photographs. If this is the case, you will have an opportunity to meet them in person and review their work prior to making any commitments with us.  We do not do "tag-team" work. Your photographer will photograph all aspects of your wedding day.

Does he work with an assistant and will he have back-up equipment in the event of a problem?
Generally, an assistant is not needed with the type of wedding photography that I do. Backup equipment is essential. I being a minimum of 3 cameras and 8 film backs, 3 sets of flash units, with spare batteries, cords, and twice as much film as I expect to shoot. I rotate equipment throughout the wedding to diversify as much risk as possible.

Is he familiar with your ceremony and reception location?
The location and directions are covered in the interview phase. I try to visit the rehearsals to familiarize myself with your ceremony, officials, and family members.

Can you give him a list of special people with whom you want pictures?
Certainly. These will be honored, without requiring a commitment to purchase

How many hours does his price include?
My fees are service based. If the ceremony and reception exceed six hours, an additional $100.00 is due. Time count is based on the ceremony published starting time.

How much time will you need to allow for the formal wedding photos taken either before or after the ceremony?
This ranges from 20 minutes to 50 minutes. The biggest factor is whether or not a receiving line forms at the end of the ceremony. If we can begin the formal shots immediately, and if all of the party are present and orderly, a half hour should suffice.

Will he sell the album or negatives?
The preview album is available for $225.00 Negatives are not typically sold because I cannot guarantee the quality of the resultant images.

How many years does he keep the negatives?
After two years, I will try to contact the bride or parents of the couple to give the negative set to. I do not discard negatives. I will encourage couples to safeguard them in a climate-controlled area, protected from light.

What does he normally wear when photographing a wedding?
Suit or tuxedo for church weddings, suit or sport coat for informal or garden events. I try to blend in to the wedding party without drawing attention away from the couple.

Are you a member of a professional photographers association?
I am a member of the Professional Photographers of America, Wedding and Portrait group. They have a strong code of ethics for photographers. I have a link to their site on my home page, and they list me in their "I Need a Photographer" service. I encourage you to visit their site.
